A K Pandey said GST is a win-win situation for the entire country

Shri A K Pandey, Chief Commissioner, Customs, Central Excise & Service Tax, Nagpur inaugurated the VIA GST Clinic. In the Inaugural he said GST will make the claims of GST that it will boost the Make in India initiative of the Government and it will render India a common market, a reality. He said that GST Act has been drafted in a simplest way possible making the law crystal clear and leaving a very little scope for the litigation.

He deliberated few highlights of the GST, GST is a win-win situation for the entire country. It brings benefits to all the stakeholders of industry, government and the consumer. It will lower the cost of goods and services, give a boost to the economy and make the products and services globally competitive. GST aims to make India a common market with common tax rates and procedures and remove the economic barriers thus paving the way for an integrated economy at the national level. GST is largely technology driven. It will reduce the human interface to a great extent and this would lead to speedy decisions.

He further added that GST is expected to bring buoyancy to the Government revenue by widening the tax base and improving the tax compliance. GST is likely to improve India’s ranking in the Ease of Doing Business Index and is estimated to increase the GDP growth by 1.5 to 2%. Shri A K Pandey added that GST will bring more transparency to indirect tax laws.

Shri P K Agrawal, Jt Commissioner Sales Tax (Admin), said GST is virtually knocking at the door and is likely to roll- out of from l July 2017 with the presidential granting approval to the four supporting GST legislations i.e. CGST LAW, IGST, LAW, UTGST LAW, and Compensation Law.

He said as far as Maharashtra Sales tax department is concerned, there is full state of preparedness and we at MSTD is leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to face new challenges under GST regime and to provide best services to existing VAT dealers for smooth and hassle-free migration to

He informed that Sales Tax office Nagpur Division has launched trade outreach and industry sensitization programme throughout the Nagpur Division, for educating and explaining taxpayers on legal and procedural aspects and the compliances expected from them under GST.

He said the Nagpur Division has around 53 thousand VAT dealers out of which almost 90 % dealers has enrolled on GSTN portal and has completed process of migration. The enrolment window will be re-opened for 15 days from 1st June, 2017 to give another opportunity to taxpayers to enroll.

Omprakash Bagdia in his Welcome address informed that VIA is making representations on behalf of trade and industry to regarding the issues in GST. He asked to the gathering that of they have any issues they can inform VIA and VIA will make representation accordingly.

Ashok Chandak has covered the session on Overview of Basic GST and Broad Analysis of GST Law. He started with explaining the three tier system of GST he explained What, Why & important dimensions of GST. He summed up the how GST will work and its salient features along with in much elaborated manner. He finally said that GST would be beneficial to and is in the larger interest of industry and trade by providing a simple, more comprehensive and wider coverage of input tax credits and by subsuming majority of the indirect taxes within its ambit. Consequent to elimination or reduction in the cascading effect of taxes, the system would become more transparent and self-policing. Further, to the exchequer, it will widen their tax base, provide better tax compliance and may lead to reduction in the tax burden on all dealers at large in the industry and trade, provided tax compliance is made simplified.
