Awareness Program on

“International Equivalence of Accreditation and its benefits to the Industry” held

EEPC India (formerly Engineering Export Promotion Council) along with Vidarbha Industries Association and NABCB organized a Awareness Program on “International Equivalence of Accreditation and its benefits to the Industry” and Niryat Bandhu Scheme of DGFT at VIA on 18th May 2017.

Mr Anil Jauhri, CEO, NABCB said that India needs better preparedness to face the challenges of new standards and strict regulations. He also stressed on the need of using the services of reliable accredited bodies while getting system certifications. He gave brief history of QCI and NABCB how to acquire it what is the process to acquire and gave multiple benefits of NABCB Accreditation Certificates.

Engineering exports have seen a downfall in the last few years and Indian exporters need to improve standards and compliance with technical regulations to maintain market share. EEC India representative said that major destinations of India’s engineering exports are US and major European counties. In many cases Indian exports are suffering due to non-adhereance to technical standards and regulations.

Mr B S. Gopalkrishnan, FTDO, DGFT, Nagpur highlighted various Foreign Trade Policy 2015-2020 and how to get new ICE, preparation, development and use of New IEC by the Holder, exports procedures and its benefits and how to claim it. He also briefed about the Niryat Bandhu Scheme and monitoring new and potential exporter through counseling & training.

Ms Shobha Hegde, Lead Assessor, NABCB made presentations on Challenge of Standards and Conformity Assessment and Systems Certification: Guidance on Selection of Certification Bodies. She said about the Role of standards in international trade, Mutual Recognition Agreement & accreditations, Issues related to Technology Related Standards and current standards/regulatory framework for engineering sector.

Dr. Aparna Dhawan, Joint Director, NABCB informed about the International Equivalence of Accreditation & its Benefits to Industry. She said that improving manufacturing competitiveness of MSME sector, Private standards and its role in increasing exports and Industry perspective on standards.

The program was largely attended by Regulatory Authorities & Quality Managers, Industry Representatives, Business Development Managers, National & Private sector R&D labs, Manufacturers & exporters, Contract Manufacturers, Academia and Research Institutes, Emerging Entrepreneurs, Solution and Service Providers related to engineering sector, Leather Machineries, Banking & Financial Institution.

Gopalkrishnan, FTDO, DGFT, Nagpur, Ms Shobha Hegde, Lead Assessor, NABCB, Dr. Aparna Dhawan, Joint Director, NABCB, Pratap Singh, Executive Officer, EEPC India, Mumbai gave floral welcomed by Atul Pande, President – VIA. In his welcome address, Mr Atul Pande, President – VIA briefed about the activities of VIA and its role. He said exports are declining due to stiff competition and turmoil of international market. He said issues and concerns of the industry and harmonization of Indian standards with international ones as the need of the hour. Program was conducted by Ms Shruti Surjan, Member – VIA EXIM Forum. Mr Pratap Singh, Executive Officer – EEPC India summed up the session and proposed a vote of thanks.
